Geoff White had been building a reputation for heady minimal techno until his debut full-length as Aeroc, Viscous Solid, revealed a particular genius for placing acoustic sounds in a decidedly digital context. While seven years removed from that release, Aeroc's R+B=? displays the same out-of-time qualities as its predecessor.

Fusing low-res electronic noise and pop hooks so effortlessly that it can seem accidental, Crystal Castles began as producer/multi-instrumentalist Ethan Kath's solo project in late 2003. When Kath collaborated with singer Alice Glass on some songs in spring 2005, Crystal Castles' lineup was complete. On April 25, 2011, Crystal Castles released a new version of their second album, this time titled II, which included the Robert Smith version of "Not in Love" instead of the previous version.

Dec 10, 2010

01. Chains
02. Storm Column
03. Serpent
04. Giza
05. Mirage
06. Oracle

Gatekeeper adds a thick branch to electronica with 2011’s Giza EP. The opening song, “Chains,” kickstarts with a motorcycle’s engine rumbling. As it rides into the sunset, old keyboard tones and drum-machine beats strobe together like an early-'90s Nitzer Ebb tune, replete with biker-movie samples and an eerie whistle reminiscent of a spaghetti western. While the kitschy bleeps and blips hark back to a time when kids blew their allowances at the arcade, there’s also a loving nod to John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween score.

01. Black Coils
02. Goatghost
03. Locked Forever
04. Of Chaos And Hell

New four track EP from this Russian witch house oriented outfit following their Benighted United EP from 2010 that develops on themes and expands their sound onto a wider plane. The track titles elude to an end times of occult darkness, Biblical prophecies, of damnation fire and brimstone, the wastelands and castigation's of Milton's Lost Paradise, Satanic themes wrought in cold electronics.

"This is my ode to moody summers transfigured upon pattern diffused lifescapes and brushed off; to fabricated memories of teen hackers of the past and their elementary school computer labs buried deep within the oceans of time. To a new life, experienced more vividly through Microsoft encarta and library terminals of the past. we miss you.
